Employee Spotlight: Keith Hughes

Updated: Dec 15, 2020

Meet Keith Hughes, one of our Senior Art Directors with a strong set of creative eyes and Celtic’s newest team member all the way from sunny Huntington Beach, CA (we promise it gets warm here, Keith). When he’s not here at Celtic, he’s going for runs with his dog Milo or doing “art stuff” (macaroni necklaces?). Read on to learn about his favorite projects and that one time he met Mr. T.

Being at a bigger agency before Celtic, what do you think is the biggest difference? We used to joke and call the agency a dinosaur— the body was too big for its brain.  One thing that sticks out to me is the awareness and participation of all involved here. At the bigger agencies the higher-ups have no idea what’s coming in and what’s going out, as opposed to Celtic where everyone has their hands on projects and we all know about what work is going on. (Teamwork makes the dream work)

What’s one of your favorite campaigns you’ve worked on? While I was working on the account for McDonalds, one of our researches came to us with an unsettling statistic— every day, an unbelievable amount of children who are getting Happy Meals to eat do not own a book. We wanted to help this problem and came up with the idea to replace the toy with a children’s book. We came up with about 6 different original stories. It was a really fun and rewarding project to be a part of.

Have you met anyone famous? Quite a few actually, all thanks to work. I was able to meet Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Betty White. One of the most memorable was when I was working on a toothpaste commercial, we had Mr. T in a boxing ring battling a giant tube of toothpaste. (Did he pity the tube? Sorry, we had to do it)

What would be your last meal? I would say tuna casserole, a tuna melt and angel hair spaghetti with meatballs. Hey, it’s my last meal, right?

What’s your go-to email signoff? On the bottom of my email it always says “please excuse any misspellings in my eagerness to respond”. (Well played, Keith)

Most used app on your phone? I try not to be on my phone too much but I do use the weather app a ton for when I want to go on a run.

Time to learn a little more about Keith with our “Lightning Round”
